Hold onto your hats because we’ve got some juicy political drama that even Mickey Mouse couldn’t resist. Yeah, you heard it right – the whole Disney gang is throwing shade at Florida’s very own Ron DeSantis. It’s like a political showdown straight out of a cartoon!
Ron vs. Disney
So, here’s the scoop: DeSantis, the guy who had the catchy “Run With Ron” slogan back when he won the Florida gubernatorial election in 2018, is now tangled up in a legal mess with Disney. Yep, the Walt Disney Co., the big boss of all things magic and media, is taking a swing at DeSantis with a lawsuit.
Now, what’s got Disney all riled up, you ask? It’s this whole Central Florida Tourism Oversight Board situation. DeSantis did a little rebranding dance with the board, and that got Mickey’s ears twitching. You see, Disney had some plans cooking up for Orlando’s land development, but then they called out DeSantis’ “Don’t say gay” law. This law basically says no talking about sexual orientation and gender stuff in schools. Disney wasn’t having it, so they spoke up.
And guess what? DeSantis wasn’t exactly thrilled with their little protest. He pulled some strings, and the board (yes, the one he had a hand in) ripped those development contracts into pieces, all while Disney’s lawyers were probably shouting “Oh, bother!”
Now Disney’s got their legal guns blazing, with their attorney Dan Petrocelli, who’s got some fancy title at the O’Melveny law firm, leading the charge. They want to make sure their plans for Walt Disney World stay intact, no matter how much political jousting is going on.
Well, DeSantis is eyeing the U.S. presidency, and let’s just say his campaign doesn’t seem to be getting any high-fives from Disney characters. This whole mess isn’t exactly a confidence booster for his “woke war” campaign. And let’s not forget, the Republican party is all about that free enterprise and hands-off economy stuff, so a land brawl with a corporate giant doesn’t exactly scream “smooth move.”
But wait, there’s more! DeSantis seems to be flipping through radio stations lately. He’s telling CNBC he wants Disney to drop the whole lawsuit and get on with life. And as for Disney? Well, it’s still up in the air whether they’ll let the Force be with them or back down.
All eyes are on Judge Margaret H. Schreiber, who’s the ringmaster for this legal circus over in Florida’s Orange County. So, stay tuned, college champs, because the battle between the mouse and the man is far from over! 🎉🐭🏰
