History of Dogecoin
Dogecoin was created by Software Engineers Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer in 2013. The idea of Dogecoin became a joke based off the popular Doge meme, a purposeful misspelling of the word “Dog”. After the Twitter community pressed Billy to turn his “dogecoin” joke into a reality, he teamed with Jackson Palmer to create the meme cryptocurrency blockchain.
Despite being a joke, dogecoin quickly gained widespread support and began to gain significant value over the years. During the Crypto Bubble of 2017, the DOGE had reached a market cap of $2 Billion USD. This was later exceeded in 2021, when Dogecoin led the total market cap to reach a high of over $80 Billion USD in May of 2021.
